A boy in Ireland left severly brain damaged by a botched operation has recieved 3.75 euro's in compensation.. but not content with winning the settlement in the High Court, his mother, went to The Irish Times {may 5th} to complain about his condition, and how she feels about everything, her son will never be able to do...despite having this vast amount of money with which to help Kurtis progress, she still expects the state and charities for children with cp, to help her out...She whined to the paper "Kurtis has had the same wheelchair for 5 years and recieves only 1 physio and language session per week"..what on earth does she intend to do with the money! Obviously the fact that it's supposed to be used to pay for her son's therapy and whatever he needs, is unimportant to your woman...I really feel for this lad.If it was Alasdair or Louis, I'd spend every last penny in a concerted effort to make their lives easier. Not one of us would go whinging to the papers about the tragedy of our son's lost life...
If in the event the settlement of funds received had not been obtained then Yes definitely there would have needed to have been the seeking and receiving of funds from State and Charities for Children, after all that is what these funds ought to be for. In the case where there is a good sized settlement then Yes definitely those funds first and foremost needs to be spent on the care of the one damaged/harmed. I realize it is mentioned severely brain damaged and yet with the funds that there are available and given that the child is already in a physio and language session per week would give me to desire to increase those sessions to say DAILY with the hope that the stimulation received might in some way give a spark to perhaps some brain cells that are yet perhaps whole/well. I guess I am thinking of Christopher Reeve… how with all the physical damage he sustained he continued on in the various therapies hoping that other advancements whether in stem cell research or other research might one day avail him and he was doing all he could…so too with the settlement discussed here then aggressive therapies need to be ongoing.
